Overview

Our CARE scholarships will be granted to students who have demonstrated leadership within their communities and a strong commitment to making positive, healthy choices regarding substance use. CARE Dallas will award five seniors a $2,500 scholarship through a application and selection process.

Applicants must complete the CARE Scholarship Application, which includes​ 

  • 1-2 page personal essay that includes a summary of community service/honors/distinctions + response to our prompt

  • A brief academic transcript

  • Letter of recommendation from 1-2 references

Application deadline: March 12th 2026 at midnight. 

Applications are open to all DFW high-school students who are​ currently seniors and planning to attend a university or community college after graduation.

Complete the Application Form

All applicants must complete the online scholarship application form. This form collects basic information and is required to be considered for the CARE Dallas Scholarship.

 

Please ensure all fields are filled out accurately before submitting.

Personal
Essay

Applicants must submit a 1–2 page personal essay responding to the prompt listed on our website.

 

Essays should also include a brief summary of your community service involvement, distinctions, or honors.

 

This is your opportunity to share your experiences, goals, and why this scholarship matters to you.

Academic Transcript

Please upload a current academic transcript that reflects your most recent coursework and grades.

Official or unofficial transcripts are accepted unless otherwise noted.

Letter of
Recommendation

Applicants must submit 1-2 letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your character, academic performance, or community involvement.

 

References may include teachers, counselors, coaches, or community leaders.

Scholarship Application Checklist

Personal Essay Prompt & Requirements

Applicants must submit a 1-2 page personal essay based on the following prompt:

Describe a personal experience that has shaped your commitment to making positive, healthy choices regarding drugs and alcohol. This may include how substance use has impacted your life, family, or community. How has this experience influenced your goals, leadership, and the way you hope to make a difference in the lives of others.

Please include a brief summary of community service, distinctions, or honors.

Application Process

  1. Our CARE Staff and committee will blind read applications and select 10 finalists.

  2. Lists will be given to the committee chairman and evaluate candidates to be interviewed.

  3. Formal Interviews are conducted with the 10 finalists.

  4. Staff produces checks and certificates for the winners. 

  5. CARE contacts the schools of the winners, so they can present the awarded scholarship to the winners.

Criteria For Choosing Finalists

  • Personal or family experience with substance use/abuse

  • Academic Transcript

  • School or Community Activities that demonstrate leadership in the area of underage drinking or use of illicit drugs

  • ​Referral from school counselor (if applicable)

  • Strong expression of commitment to maintaining a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. 

  • Extracurricular activities
